Mommy SOS - Switching to Milk
Jun 23, 2010
Thanks so much for all who helped with your great suggestions for Mommy SOS: Teething Baby with Cold. Nora broke a couple front teeth and is doing much better thanks to a combination of teething tablets, Tylenol and extra lovin'.
For today's Mommy SOS I'm wondering how you transitioned your toddlers from formula/breast milk to cow's milk? We're coming up on Nora's One Year Birthday and I'm trying to determine what the best strategy is for this.

Since Elyse was on the bottle it was easier than a breast. We changed her sippy at meals to whole milk right away, lunch and dinner first. Than the next week added breakfast, finally her small glass before bedtime. I think she was ready to give up the bottle and have sippys all day, she didn't even notice.
We did half formula / half milk for about a week to make sure there were no tummy issues from the milk and then just stopped formula.
Yes, what they said. If she is transitioning from a bottle, try Nuby sippy cups, they are similar to a bottle and make the transition a little easier. And then slowly transition to a different sippy cup or my favorite, straw cup. Straw cups are really great when your baby can get it because if you ever do forget a cup (not that first time moms ever forget anything) but all restaurants have straws and cups!
We just did it. One day, we started giving her whole milk in her bottle, at all the normal times. There were no problems for us. Maybe she's easy? Maybe it is just that easy in general but we think it might be harder.:) I'll let you know after we do it with #2 . . .
What, my advice wasn't good enough for you? :) I second the Nuby...we went through so many sippy's and just found those. They don't leak when she throws them :) Love me some Nora!!!
haha! i am finally first on your blog roll list! even if i just posted it two seconds ago. :) anyhoo, we decided to just go for it and see how luke did. we put whole milk in a straw sippy cup, since he was comfortable with the straw, in place of one of his morning formula feeding first. it took us a day to figure out that he preferred warm milk to cold but it went really well from there... good luck! :)
